I suppose you want to start blogging and you don’t know where to begin if you are here. Right? Great you came to the right place. In this article, I will show you exactly how to write a blog from scratch so you can start blogging right after you read this guide.
1) Chose a Niche
Planning is crucial if you want to save time and money. So make sure to follow the step by step guide, it will help you create your blog. The first thing you need to do is to Choose a niche. It can be any niche you want, a hobby, a passion, or something you are interested in.
If your goal is to make money, then you better make sure it is a profitable niche. So how to know if it’s a lucrative niche? The best way to find out is to type your topic into one of these free keyword tools. Google Traffic Estimator, Ubersuggest, and Serps and Traffic Travis
*If Your main keyword gets between 1000 to 10.000 search per month, then you are on the right path!
Also, make sure the niche you have chosen is still popular. Go to Google Trends and type your keyword into the search box. If the graph is trending up or consistent, it’s a good sign.
But If it’s trending downward, then it means the niche has lost its popularity. If it’s a seasonal niche, the graph will trend up and suddenly trend downward in certain periods of the year.
2) Choose a Domain Name
Your next step will be choosing a domain name for your website. You can buy it for cheap from any hosting company. Prices range from $9.99 to $15.99 per year, and you can renew it every year or pay in advance for a more extended period.
You need to be careful when choosing a domain name because you will have a hard time to change it if you are not happy with it anymore.
That’s what happened to me with my first website a few years ago. My domain name was too long and too specific.”Yacht sailing charters” Not only it was hard for readers to remember it but it has limited me to find more content to write about.
I finally changed it to Cruising Sea, which gave me more flexibility, but the big problem was that I lost all my ranking, and back then I didn’t know that I could redirect the old URL to the new one with a 301.
Anyway, it would be better to start on the right foot and avoid wasting time with technical stuff. So learn from my mistake and get a good name from the beginning!
Tip: Try to opt for .com extension! If you don’t find a domain name with .com, then Net or Org will be fine too!
3) Get a Hosting Company
There are many good hosting companies on the market, but not all of them provide high-quality hosting services. A lousy hosting will affect your ranking, traffic, and revenues due to slow loading times, internal server errors, etc..
So you better make sure you pick the right hosting company. The best way to find out is to read reviews and comparison chart on websites.
I bought several domain names and had hosted some of my websites in Namecheap, and I never had any issue with them. For me, this company is perfect!
Usually hosting companies charge an amount of only $9.99 a month for a hosting plan, and you can even pay for several years in advance, which offer you great deals.
4) Chose a Blogging Platform
Here again, there are many blogging platforms out there that provide free and paid services. The free blogging platforms include Tumblr, Medium, Blogger, Blog, and WordPress.
If you your goal is to create a personal blog, then anyone of these above will work out well for you. But if you want to make money, then you should unquestionably use WordPress. It’s easy to use. There are plenty of free theme and plugins to chose from.
It makes your site rank higher in the search engine. It’s incredibly well secured, and the support is fantastic. If you want my advice, don’t spend your money on premium themes and plugins when you just start out as I did. Beleive me; I know what I am talking about, I spent a lot of money on unnecessary things.
So you really need to be aware of this. Once you start making money with your blog, you can then invest in a premium theme and personalize your brand.
5) Write Content
Writing content is one of the most critical parts of succeeding in blogging. You need to create unique content – meaning relevant and useful to the users.
Also, it’s crucial to be consistent when blogging because that’s what will make you rank on Google.
But what is consistency? Is that mean I have to write articles every single day?
No, at all!
You can post once a week and still be consistent. To be more precise, if you publish every day and then the next week nothing, your SEO will suffer.
That’s what I mean by being consistent! So, yeah, you should be aware of this and make sure you stick to your schedule!
6) Build Your Blog Audience
Building your audience means, sharing your content on social networks such as Facebook, Pinterest, Twiter, Google Plus+, etc..
Being active on these platforms will help you grow your blog significantly.
So the first thing you need to do is to choose your platforms you’ll be sharing your content on and then create an account.
Don’t feel you have to be part of all social media. You can do very well only with one or two of them.
Using too many platforms will overwhelm you. My advice to you is to try several platforms first to see where you get the best results and according to this, chose your network.
My Final Words!
After reading this article, you should be able to create your own blog without spending a fortune. In fact, only the domain and hosting will cost you a few bucks, and that’s it. You are good to go! As I mentioned earlier, there are a plethora of beautiful free WP websites and useful plugins that you can use for your blog. So take advantage of this and start blogging today!
Do you already blog? If so, what blogging platform and hosting company do you use? Let me know in the comments below.
Hello Daniella, and thank you for this guide!
This is very helpful, especially for someone that’s just trying to start, and doesn’t understand how a blog can be lucrative.
One of the greatest things about online affiliate marketing that I’ve found is that it also creates residual income, that can keep coming in passively even when you’re not actively working.
Starting a business blog can be challenging, but with the right guidance, it sounds like a GREAT opportunity!
Hi Jordan,
You are welcome!
Yes, this guide is especially for beginners, and if they follow these simple step by steps, it will help them build their own blog.
Indeed, a business online can definitely make you earn lucrative passive income. In fact, it’s a real business and the problem with the internet is that it is fast. That’s the reason why many people lose patience online since they want to see results right away. To build a thriving business online, you need three things. Patience, persistent and consistency.
Thank you for the comment!

I appreciate the fact that you listed down step by step so it was very simple for me to understand the setup process. I am very interested in blogging, may I know how long have you been blogging and have you found any success with it?
Hi Neil,
You are welcome!
Indeed, the process is very simple, but you need to be consistent, and that’s not always as easy as it seems:)
To answer your question, I’ve been blogging since 2014 and I love each moment of it! As for success, if I am still blogging today. So yes, I’ve found success! I am not the kind of person that like to show my incomes. I am quite discrete:) Anyway, I hope you found your answers to your questions.
Thank you for passing by!
